  • Mark Wahlberg has announced that he will donate the $1.5 million salary he earned reshooting scenes from All the Money in the World to the Times Up Legal Defence Fund.

The announcement follows the recent revelation that co-star Michelle Williams, earned only $1000 for reshooting the movie's scenes. The 10-day reshoot was required when director Ridley Scott chose to replace Kevin Spacey with Christopher Plumber in the role.

"Over the last few days my reshoot fee for All The Money in the World has become an important topic of conversation," said Wahlberg. "I 100 per cent support the fight for fair pay and I'm donating the $1.5 million to the Time's Up Legal Defense Fund in Michelle Williams' name."

William Morris Endeavor talent agency announced it will also donate $500,000 to the Times Up fund, a coalition of women in Hollywood set up by stars such as Reese Witherspoon, America Ferrera and Shonda Rhimes to combat harassment in the industry, starting with a legal-defense fund for abuse victims.

  • On Sunday January 7, 2018, at his Vibrato Grill Jazz Club, legendary Grammy award-winning musician, recording industry executive, and philanthropist Herb Alpert and his wife Lani, donated $2 million to establish The Eden Alpert Therapeutic Music Program at Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services in Los Angeles, California in honor of Herb's daughter Eden.

This life affirming legacy gift was granted through The Herb Alpert Foundation to Vista Del Mar, a 110-year-old, four-star Charity Navigator rated social service agency whose mission it is to promote compassion and creativity through innovative, transformative programs. Vista is a leader in providing children and families with specialized educational, mental health, autism, adoptions and early intervention services.

The Eden Alpert Therapeutic Music Program was created to provide children with learning disabilities a safe environment to explore their artistic potential while developing a greater appreciation of music.

"The entire Alpert family has maintained a strong connection with Vista Del Mar for more than 50 years, explains Rona Sebastian, President of the Herb Alpert Foundation. "The Eden Alpert Therapeutic Music Program grows out of that long-term history, and brings together the Foundation's passion to support the arts for all young people and encourage an environment that nurtures compassion and well-being."

Music Therapy is the clinical and evidence based use of music interventions to accomplish individualized goals within a therapeutic relationship. It has tangible sustained impact on children with special needs. Music therapy is conducted by credentialed professionals who have completed an approved music therapy program; interventions can be designed to:
    Promote wellness
    Manage stress
    Alleviate pain
    Express feelings
    Enhance memory
    Improve communication

Vista Del Mar provides therapeutic arts programming, including music, both as an elective class during school hours, and as an after-school program for residents. Through these initiatives children have increased self-esteem, have the opportunity to learn an instrument of their choice, are able to perform in front of an audience, and have increased school attendance.

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, staff and students of Vista Del Mar, I want to thank The Alpert Foundation for this transformative gift," said Nancy Tallerino, Vista President and CEO. "It will forever change our ability to offer cutting edge music therapy and education to our students. The Alpert grant ensures that we have the resources to educate, engage, and enrich our students and by extension, ultimately better the diverse communities from which they came. We are forever grateful."

A 2006 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Herb Alpert's albums have sold over 72 million copies; 29 of his records have reached the Billboard 200. Herb and his wife, Lani Hall Alpert, a Grammy award-winning vocalist, have dedicated their lives to philanthropy, funding programs that include arts education, jazz and support to professional artists. Through the Herb Alpert Foundation, they have supported hundreds of organizations over the past several decades. Their philanthropy includes endowing the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts and most recently the Music Department at Los Angeles City College. Twenty three years ago they established the annual Herb Alpert Award in the Arts to honor individual mid-career artists, which is administered by Cal Arts, and they also provide annual funding in support of the Herb Alpert Scholarships for Emerging Young Artists, administered by the California State Summer School for the Arts.

Vista Del Mar Child and Family Services has cared for Los Angeles' most vulnerable children for over a century, providing a range of exceptional programs in education, mental health, autism, adoption, residential care, prevention and early intervention. Vista's programs are for children with social, emotional and behavioral challenges, wrapping love and support around the entire family and is today is Los Angeles' most prominent resource for children of the Autism Spectrum. Vista Del Mar is a national role model in providing these specialized services and therapeutic treatment for children of all circumstance and ability.

  • The Duke of Cambridge recently visited ‘Campaign Against Living Miserably' (CALM), a charity dedicated to preventing male suicide, to lend his support to their ‘Best Man Project'.

On arrival His Royal Highness met staff, volunteers and supporters from CALM, before joining a group of men who are taking part in filming ‘Best Man Project' videos, where they chat about the importance of friendship and issues around mental wellbeing.

CALM delivers services for men in crisis or distress, supporting people around them and those bereaved by suicide. You access their support HERE.

The Best Man Project was launched by CALM to promote the idea that you don't have to wait for a wedding to be a great friend, and because male friendships can be instrumental in men looking after their mental health.

With male suicide the single biggest killer of men under the age of 45 in the UK and social isolation becoming an issue, having good friends that recognise the signs of mental illness is increasingly important.

The Duke is a keen mental health campaigner, and in 2016, together with The Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry, he created Heads Together Campaign, which created a national conversation about mental health.

Retired footballer Rio Ferdinand and friend Jamie have been making a video for the Project – they previously took part in a Heads Together #oktosay video.

His Royal Highness then joined a roundtable discussion, chaired by Ronan Kemp, where participants had the chance to share what they've been through and why male friendship is important to mental wellbeing.

Participants included Carl Anka, who is a writer, podcaster and journalist who writes about mental health -- the CALM helpline helped Carl in his darkest hour on more than one occasion.
CALM also campaign for long-term culture change to redefine and open up masculinity, so that over time fewer men will need support at crisis point.

  • Last week, St. Jude Children0s Research Hospital honored GRAMMY Award-winning country music superstar Brad Paisley with the prestigious Randy Owen Angels Among Us Award.

ALABAMA front man and co-founder of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids, Randy Owen, presented the award to Paisley
ALABAMA front man and co-founder of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids, Randy Owen, presented the award to Paisley

The coveted award -- which recognizes individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to the hospital through their humanitarian spirit and unique commitment -- was given to Paisley Saturday, Jan. 13, at the annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids songwriter's dinner at The Peabody Memphis.

This recognition places Paisley among the ranks of five past recipients, including Alabama front man and co-founder of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids, Randy Owen for whom the award is named; additional recipients are country music artist John Rich, former ALSAC Chief Operating Officer David McKee (posthumously), St. Jude Country Cares Advisory Council member Sharon Eaves (posthumously), and country music artist Darius Rucker.

Paisley is a long-standing supporter of the lifesaving mission of St. Jude. In 2011, he recorded "One of Those Lives," a song inspired by the courageous patients and families of St. Jude. Paisley donated a family gathering room to St. Jude Target House, St. Jude's long-term housing facility for families staying more than 90 days. The Brad Paisley Lodge, positioned near the entrance of St. Jude Target House, is a cozy, common area for residents with a pool table, Guitar Hero gaming system, TVs and a fireplace. Thanks to generous donors, families stay at the St. Jude Target House for no cost.

"We are proud to honor Brad Paisley with this recognition. His unwavering passion, service and generosity are truly inspiring, and over the years he has made a significant difference in the lives of patients and families at St. Jude," said Richard Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

He continued, "This recognition is a testament to Brad Paisley's strong advocacy for St. Jude, and the ongoing fight for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. And this honor for Brad also reflects the strength of the entire country music industry, who devote their hearts, time and talent each year to further share our mission and raise funds that are critically important in ensuring families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food -- because all a family should worry about is helping their child live."

  • Prominent actor, author and noted philanthropist William Shatner will once again host his annual gifting ceremony and charity breakfast later this month on January 24 at Los Angeles' Six Restaurant in Studio City.

The equine lover will be distributing money raised through last year's Priceline.com Hollywood Charity Horse Show Sponsored by Wells Fargo to nearly 20 worthy charities around Los Angeles, most of which are predominantly focused on supporting children with special needs and veterans.

A tireless champion for underrepresented communities for decades, Shatner has helped raise tens of millions of dollars over the last 30 years through his charity horse show, all of which has gone to provide support and backing to a spectrum of Los Angeles-area nonprofits.

This year Shatner will present funds to 17 vital organizations, including the Children0s Hospital Los Angeles, Hollenbeck Police Activities League, A Place Called Home, AHEAD With Horses, ALSAC / St. Jude Children0s Research Hospital, Friendly House LA, Painted Turtle Gang Camp Foundation, Pets for Vets and Saddles for Soldiers.

"It's an honor to be able to put this event on each year, as it just gets better and better," says Shatner. "The assistance we are able to provide could not happen without the generosity of our charitable donors and the backing from sponsors such as Priceline.com and Wells Fargo."

  • Evander Holyfield is teaming up with AriseBank, the first decentralized cryptocurrency bank and blockchain development company Cryptonomex, to raise money for disaster preparedness.

Using [BitShares ], one of the most advanced blockchain platforms in the world, they will accelerate the slow process of recovery in future disasters like the recent hurricane and wildfire storms.

In 2017, super-storms devastated Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, California and dozens of other communities in the Caribbean and the Gulf States. These disasters have left millions without the help they need.

The money required to restore the Houston Florida, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and other areas, can't be raised fast enough if you're homeless or forced to live with relatives because your family's house was one of the one million homes destroyed. Holyfield wants to help raise the funds needed through his charity endowment to help these people recover from these type of disasters in the future.

This is not your usual celebrity endorsement. This is a long-lasting strategic partnership. The world sees "digital currency" as a unique solution to the biggest challenges presented by these national tragedies.

Holyfield plans on using cryptocurrency to fund humanitarian disaster preparedness. He hopes to raise a million dollars for disaster-related causes and then grow it to a billion-dollar endowment using the Bitshares Endowment model created by the Billion Hero Campaign. Holyfield's endowment, as well as the original Billion Hero Endowment are hosted on BillionHeroCampaign.com.

"I am really excited about this. The more I can do, the better. Cryptocurrency seems to be a good way to help the causes that I care about," said Evander Holyfield.

The team has developed a way to create digital currency endowments that leverage the growth of cryptocurrency using the BitShares platform. One dollar can become hundreds of dollars paid out to victims over several years. One thousand dollars can become hundreds of thousands and so on. As BitShares value grows the donations grow with it.

There are a number of companies like AriseBank, building on the BitShares platform and the price is starting to rise. As BitShares becomes more and more popular, the endowment will use that growth to solve some of the world's biggest problems.

Announcements of the launch of "The Holyfield BitShares Endowment for Global Disaster Preparedness" will be coming soon.
